HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED?

2 cubic feet of mulch = 24 square feet at 1" depth.

2 cubic feet of mulch = 12 square feet at 2" depth.

2 cubic feet of mulch = 8 square feet at 3" depth.

Once you determine the area you are mulching in square feet, divide by 8 for 3 inches, 12 for a 2 inch depth, 24 for 1 inch. This is how many bags you need.
For new planting beds use two or three inches of mulch. Older beds can be top dressed with one to two inches. Try and get some of the older mulch out of your beds using a leaf rake, and break up any bits of crusty old mulch before you re-mulch. Put your weed preventer and fertilizers down before mulching.
